The client is a non-profit healthcare organization based in Phoenix, Arizona. It operates 33 hospitals, 6 corporate offices, 303 clinics and health centers, 49 urgent cares, 25 imaging centers and other facilities across 6 states.

Reducing risk associated with using POI devices to take payments

Banner wanted to reduce the risk associated with handling customers’ payment card data as well as reduce the time and cost of PCI audits and assessments by de-scoping its VoIP environment from PCI DSS.

Banner was attracted by the fact that Eckoh’s secure payment solution is more agnostic than others – it works with multiple different payment applications and environments. The client also felt that Eckoh offered more secure payment solutions that aligned with its overall strategy and enterprise goals, allowing for a more seamless transition to Eckoh’s solution as well as offering a range of different options tailored to the requirements of multiple business units.

De-scoping the contact center and reducing risk

The Eckoh solution allowed Banner to descope its VoIP infrastructure and greatly reduce the time and cost associated with PCI assessments and audits. At the same time, Banner’s environmental data risk was also substantially reduced by ensuring card holder data was not exposed in recorded calls and removing the need to take payments via encrypted payment devices in the home workplace.

Banner determined that it would lower its risk while generating enough cost savings to offset a portion of the cost of the solution across the enterprise.

Future plans

Banner’s aim is to use a payment orchestration strategy to consolidate the duplication of vendors and payment processes throughout the organization, whilst outsourcing the transmission of payment card data to third parties and increase the payment method options offered to the consumer.
